I’ve been dying to share this session for the last two months, but I had to keep these photos in wraps so Zander, Megan, and Bradley could surprise Mama Atwood for Christmas. I was, however, thrilled to be part of this surprise!
According to the Atwood kids, their mom has a wall of their senior photos, and they all felt that the wall was in need of an update. Aren’t they thoughtful?
I met Megan when we attended Saint Joseph’s College. We cheered together, and because I was an English major and she was a communication major, we had several writing classes together. As long as I’ve known her, Megan’s dream has been to be a newscaster. She was hired for a TV position immediately after college. She is currently working as a newscaster at 9&10 News in Traverse City, Michigan. This girl is every bit as intelligent as she is beautiful, and I have no doubt that she will eventually be on one of the major channels. Check out her work here!
Anyway, back to the session. Between the Atwood kids’ crazy schedules, there was only one time we could meet—7:30 am on an October Saturday morning. Not only was it early, but two of the three Atwoods had quite a way to travel. Zander, the oldest brother, works at Purdue, so he lives nearby, but Megan drove all the way from Traverse City (a six-hour drive!), and Bradley drove from Valparaiso, Indiana with his lovely girlfriend—Alex—who graciously held my reflector. Megan, thank you for having enough faith in my work to make the trip! I hope you feel that it was worth it every time you look at your photos.
Fun fact: Bradley told his mom that he was going on a college visit at Purdue. It’s okay to lie to your mom if you’re actually doing something nice for her, right?
We took photos at the historical buildings next to the Indiana Veterans’ home in West Lafayette, Indiana. This is one of my favorite places to shoot, and I’m so thankful Kindred Photo & Video showed me this space when I served as a second shooter.
I knew Megan was wonderful, but I’m happy to report that her brothers are just as great. They were great sports about the early morning and frigid temperatures. Mama Atwood, I’m going to guess that this is because they love you so much.
Megan sent me a video of her mom opening the photos on Christmas Eve. Sharing special moments with families is one of many reasons I love what I do, and I’m very thankful that I got to be part of this surprise. Merry Christmas, Atwood family!
