A surprisingly warm day in Indiana in November? A sweet pup with a cute bandana? Teal high heels? Taking photos at sentimental locations? AND an amazing couple?
Engagement photos don’t get any more perfect than this, and I’m so excited to share Scott Sacha and Molly Diener’s fall engagement photos at Purdue University on the blog!
Molly is from Lafayette, and Scott attended Purdue. One night, while Molly was home visiting her family, she made plans with friends to meet at the Neon Cactus (RIP).
Like many Purdue students, Scott went to the Cactus pretty regularly. He thought it was just going to be another night out, but when he saw Molly across the room, Scott told his friends, “I’m going to marry that girl.”
Scott had had a bit to drink, and his buddies laughed Scott’s comment off. But, when Scott saw Molly grab her bag and head out the door, he beelined for her and asked for her number.
Molly thought Scott was cute, and she admired his enthusiasm. So, she gave him her number. They started texting, and once Molly was 99% sure Scott was sane, she agreed to meet him for dinner.
What they thought would just be dinner turned into a six-hour date where they talked for hours at RedSeven, walked around downtown Lafayette, and hit up the arcade.
And, as it turns out, Scott was right. After three years of dating, these two are getting married!
While it didn’t take long for Scott and Molly to realize that they were meant to be, their dating relationship didn’t come without trials.
You see, they dated through the remainder of their college years (Scott at Purdue and Molly at Saint Mary’s) and were long distance. Then, even more distance was placed between them when Scott joined the military and was stationed in California and Molly moved back to Lafayette to serve as the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception’s choir director.
During their dating relationship, the two traveled to see one another as often as they could. In March 2020 (right before COVID shut things down), it was Molly’s turn to make the trip. While the two had made big plans for her visit, the rainy season and global pandemic put a damper on things. But, Scott wasn’t going to let either of these things prevent him from popping the question!
When they finally got a break in the rain, Scott told Molly he wanted to walk on the beach and look for shells. While they had looked at rings together, Molly wasn’t at all suspicious of Scott’s suggestion and was just excited to be on the ocean.
As they walked along the water, Molly diligently looked for shells. Then, Scott said, “Hey. I think I found a rock you might like.”
When Molly turned around, Scott got down on one knee and asked the girl he told his friends he was going to marry to be his wife.
Between COVID travel restrictions and Scott’s military schedule, it took a bit of coordinating to get Scott and Molly’s engagement photos on the calendar. But, I’m so glad these two were able to make their schedules work! I mean, just wait until you see their photos. These two are darling!
Since Scott and Molly’s first date was at RedSeven, they decided that they wanted to take a few photos near the restaurant since that’s where their story began. (Perhaps they would’ve chosen the Cactus, but it’s no longer open!)
After grabbing a few photos in downtown Lafayette, we traveled to Purdue since Scott and Molly share a lot of memories on campus—like their first kiss.
And, because Scott and Molly adore their pup, Stella, Molly’s dad met us on campus with Stella. She was such a good girl!
Side note: If you want to include your dog in your engagement photos, I highly recommend doing what Scott and Molly did—having a loved one bring your dog for just part of your session. This will prevent unnecessary stress for both you and you pup and will most definitely result with photos with your dog that you love!
After Stella’s closeups came to an end, Molly and Scott changed into more formal outfits and allowed me to continue their fall engagement photos at Purdue University.
Scott and Molly (and Stella), you KILLED your engagement session, and I cannot wait to get you back in front of the camera on your big day!
Due to COVID restrictions, Scott and Molly’s wedding has been divided into two days.
On Saturday, December 19, 2020, Scott and Molly will become husband and wife at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Lafayette. And, on August 28, 2021, Scott and Molly will celebrate their marriage with friends and family with a reception at New Journey Farms. I’m so excited to get to celebrate with these two twice!
Scott and Molly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for trusting me to be your wedding photographer! You two couldn’t be any sweeter.
Congratulations, Scott and Molly! I hope you love these previews from your fall engagement photos at Purdue University!
