What’s the 25-year wedding anniversary gift? I’m not entirely sure, but I think it should be family photos!
Alan and Sarah Schambach recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. They marked the occasion with lunch out as just the two of them, dinner with their kiddos, a mom-and-dad-only vacation, AND family photos!
And, now, I’m so excited to share the Schambachs’ family photos with teenagers at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!
The Schambachs are photoshoot survivors.
Now, I’m not sure how this has happened, but somehow, this sweet family has managed to consistently have some of the most intense weather for photo shoots out of all of my clients.
You see, a few years ago, there was a 0% chance of rain, and I had the Schambachs pretty deep into McAllister Park for their family session. Then, out of nowhere, a huge storm blew in, which resulted with Rustin (Alan and Sarah’s oldest) running to their minivan and driving it back through the trails to get us, because the rain was truly coming down that hard.
Then, we rescheduled their session a few weeks later, and Indiana got very cold.
Alan, Sarah, and the kids were troopers during both of these occasions and laughed off the bizarre weather. This time around, I was hoping that the weather for their shoot would be less dramatic. However, I’m pretty sure the Schambachs now hold the record for the hottest family session I’ve ever photographed. Oh, and mosquitos happened to be pretty intense during their shoot because it was so muggy, and goose poop was a problem!
Alan, Sarah, Rustin, Shelby, and Levi, you powered through. Thank you for being so positive and so much fun to work with. When you look at your family photos, I hope you only think about how much you love and appreciate one another and not how much you endured to get your images!
Side Note: I know it can be stressful to organize and coordinate family photos, especially as kids get older. But, you’ll never regret having photos with the people you love most, so don’t put off scheduling family photos. Plus, you might leave your sessions with very comical memories!

While I want to wrap this post up quickly so you can get on to looking at the Schambach family’s photos, I can’t end this blog post without bragging on Shelby a bit.
You see, Shelby is my summer intern and she’s doing an incredible job! Typically, I don’t take high school interns, but I made an exception for Shelby because (1) she works hard and (2) she’s a very talented photographer.

Sarah did an incredible job choosing outfits for their family photos. It can be difficult to coordinate a family of five, but Sarah kept things classic, limited patterns, and chose great colors. (I recommend sticking with light, neutral, and pastel colors so faces are the focus of images and because bright colors can cause strange reflections on skin.) Way to go, Sarah!
