Mr. & Mrs. Larimer: Anniversary Photos at Strawtown Koteewi Park in Noblesville, Indiana

For Mac and Richard’s anniversary session, I had the pleasure of photographing them in Wyoming! Okay, not really. But, this darling couple made Wyoming their home just days after this shoot, and this location doesn’t look like Indiana at all, does it?! 

All jokes and wanderlust aside, I’m so excited to share Richard and Maclaren Larimer’s one-year anniversary photos at Strawtown Koteewi Park in Noblesville, Indiana on the blog!

 

A Summary of Year One for the Larimers

Now, it’s an honor to photograph all VRP brides and grooms’ wedding days, but to be Mac and Richard’s wedding photographer was particularly an honor because Richard is my cousin. 

As a result, I can tell you that Mac and Richard’s first year of marriage has certainly been an adventure, and they just embarked on their biggest adventure yet—moving to Wyoming! 

Mac was accepted into The University of Wyoming’s master’s in archaeology and anthropology program, and just a couple weeks before they celebrated their first wedding anniversary, they moved across the country where Richard already had a job lined up. 

And, I have to say that I’m just so freaking proud of these two. I mean, they’re both ambitious, passionate people, and during their first year of marriage, their careers resulted with them having to spend 1.5 months apart. But, they’re one another’s biggest supporters, and Wyoming is so blessed to have them. 

 

A Few Thoughts on Year One According to the Larimers

After their shoot, I sent Mac and Richard a few questions about their first year of marriage. I do this for all anniversary shoots, but I’m excited to share Mac and Richard’s responses, because they’re so honest and genuine. 

 

What have been the highlights of year one of marriage?

“We have accomplished a lot and been able to continue our, and support each other’s, personal interests even with everything going on in the US and globally during this first year of marriage. We haven’t had the most ‘traditional’ first year of marriage, if there even is one, but it has been packed full of exciting accomplishments. Moving across the country to Wyoming is a huge thing we’ve done this year and we are so excited to see where this takes us and how it strengthens our relationship due to how much we will have to rely on one another without as much of our family’s help.”

 

What’s the best part about being married?

“Knowing that there is someone that has committed to being there for you and loving you no matter what else might be going on. There is always commitment in a relationship, but marriage takes it to a whole different level in terms of reassurance that you’ll always have someone by your side. Even when we may be in bad moods or annoyed at each other, we know that we still love and will do anything for each other. Also, it’s really fun getting to spend time with your best friend whenever you want.”

 

What’s something that’s been more difficult about being married than you expected?

“Remembering to make time for one another is sometimes hard since there is that reassurance that we will love each other no matter what. Even with the security that comes with being married, we still need to remember to continue to date and make more time for each other. Also, since marriage does make you legally a unit with your partner, it’s important to remember that even though you are dealing with stuff together you’re still allowed to be your own person. And so is your partner! We don’t always agree on things, sometimes we are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but we can still work together just fine. We just need to remember that we’re our own people who love each other lots.”

 

What’s one piece of advice that you’d give to newlyweds?

“Don’t be afraid if you don’t feel like your relationship is growing or moving forward. A wedding doesn’t immediately erase any issues you may have been having before, and that’s okay. Marriage comes from feeling secure about your feelings for each other and a willingness to persevere through anything life may throw at you—together. Also, be aware of each other’s love languages! It’s fun to continue to learn things about each other and that will help your marriage strengthen more since you can love each other the way they feel is most important.”

Mac and Richard, I can’t believe it’s been a year since your wedding day. (Which was one of the brightest parts of 2020 for our whole family by the way!)

Even if we weren’t related, I’d still adore you both so much, because you’re wonderful, kind, genuine, fun, ambitious people. And, as your cousin, I’m just so proud of you both. 

So, Mr. and Mrs. Larimer, congratulations on one year of marriage, on bravely making a big move, on grad school, on new jobs, and anything else I might be forgetting at the moment, because I know there’s a lot to congratulate you on!
