Typing this blog post, I can’t help getting a little misty eyed. As a wedding photographer, it’s a privilege to capture every couple’s love story, but it’s particularly special when you have the opportunity to photograph an old friend and see his love story come full circle.
Before I get any mushier, I’m so excited to share Josh and Autum’s engagement session at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, Indiana on the blog!
Now, before we dive into Josh and Autum’s engagement photos, I can’t help sharing that Josh and I go way back—all the way back to preschool!
I remember being on the same soccer team, coached by Josh’s mom, in first grade. I changed schools shortly after, but in middle school, Josh not only moved to my school district, but his parents bought the house my parents were selling. What a small world!
Like most people do, Josh and I lost touch after high school, but I was so happy to learn that Autum had become part of Josh’s life.
Josh and Autum knew of each other in school, but Autum was a few years younger. (I remember Autum when she was in cheer camp. She was an eighth grader when I was a senior, and I just adored her.)
Josh and Autum shared a mutual friend, and after Autum graduated from high school in 2016, they were acquainted while hanging out at the friend’s house. They’ve essentially been together ever since!
Josh lives south of Indy and works for Hershey, while Autum is finishing up her bachelor’s in zoology at Ball State. After Autum graduates from college and Josh and Autum celebrate their wedding next June, Autum plans to attend grad school.
These two will be moving somewhere near the beach so Autum can continue researching aquatic animals! (She’s as amazing!)
Now, I do think it’s important to note that Josh and Autum are proof that (1) opposites attract and (2) the best couples are complete opposites so they can bring one another balance.
While Josh is sarcastic 99% of the time and loves to tease, he’s also very sweet and loyal to those he cares about. Autum, on the other hand, is as kind hearted as they come. But, she has no problem dishing it back to her fiancé! Her jabs might be less frequent, but she gets Josh good when opportunities present themselves!
Josh and Autum, I have no doubt that your opposite personalities will keep your marriage fun and bring you balance!
By March of 2019, Josh and Autum had talked about marriage. But, with a year of school left, Autum didn’t think a proposal was coming anytime soon.
However, when Josh and Autum visited California, Josh had other plans!
This darling couple was walking down the beach to go to dinner, and Josh said something like, “What if we just went to Vegas and got married?”
Autum quickly responded with, “No. We’re not going to Vegas.”
“We could get married right now,” Josh said.
“What?!” Autum asked, not aware that Josh was ready to take that step.
“What if I told you I have a ring right now?” Josh asked.
Thinking Josh was teasing, Autum said, “You don’t.”
After a few more minutes of this while walking along the beach, Autum was confused and a little exasperated. Then, Josh got down one one knee and popped the question while the sun set behind them.
Josh had not only been planning on proposing while he and Autum were on vacation, but he’d been looking at ring options for months. In fact, he crept Autum’s Pinterest board to get inspiration! He noticed that she liked vintage/deco-inspired rings, and chose an incredible engagement ring for the love of his life!
When I saw the Facebook post announcing their engagement, I secretly hoped Josh and Autum would contact me about wedding photos. Lucky for me, they did!
Wanting a little bit of nature with a classic feel, I had the pleasure of taking Josh and Autum’s engagement photos at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, Indiana.
These two let me drag them all around the beautiful grounds. It was so nice to catch up with them and to see them interact as a couple.
Side note: I can’t help sharing this. Josh chose their engagement photo outfits! And, he did an incredible job! He also chose their wedding colors—lavender and lemon yellow. Josh, you have good taste! I’ll 100% be using these two as examples for what to wear for engagement photos in the future!
Josh and Autum will celebrate their wedding at Hunny Creek Haven on June 13, 2020.
Autum’s cousin owns this lovely venue, and I have no doubt that Josh and Autum’s big day is going to be (1) beautiful and (2) every bit as much fun as they are.
Josh and Autum, I couldn’t be happier for the two of you! Thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer! I hope you love these previews from your engagement session!
