I understand how much your wedding photos mean to you and how much work you’re putting into planning every last detail of your big day. As a VRP bride, you can relax and enjoy your wedding day knowing you’ve chosen a team of photographers who are just as detail-oriented as you are, will put thought into every shot, and will pay attention to all of the little details to ensure that you and your spouse love your wedding photos.
I shared some of my favorite wedding photos from 2019 a couple weeks ago, and today, I’m so excited to share some of my favorite engagement photos from the year!
In 2019, I was fortunate to have 16 couples in front of the camera for engagement photos. And, I can honestly say that every session was unique and incredible in its own way!
From traveling to San Diego for J.R. and Lizzie’s session to the crazy wind chills we experienced during Ryan and Katie’s engagement session, 2019 is a year of engagement photos I’ll never forget!
Now, before you check out the photos, I can’t help sharing a common question brides and grooms ask me. “Do we really need to take engagement photos?”
I recommend having engagement photos taken and include complimentary engagement sessions in all wedding photography packages for two reasons:
If you don’t love being in front of the camera, you’re normal! Just the thought of having photos taken is nerve wracking to most people.
Your wedding day will be amazing, but you’ll likely naturally be a little nervous on your big day. (I mean, I 100% knew Zach was the one, but I still woke up with butterflies on our wedding day!) The last thing you want on your wedding day is to be stressing about your photos (or anything else for that matter).
When you have engagement photos taken, you can get comfortable being in front of the camera and working with your photographer, which will make your wedding day more fun and relaxing. Who doesn’t want that?!
You’re going to love your wedding photos. I mean, they’re going to help you remember one of the happiest days of your life.
Our wedding photos are my most treasured possession. However, I can honestly say that I like our engagement photos more than our wedding photos. They’re just more “us.”
And, many of my brides and grooms have told me that they feel the same way about their photos!
For your engagement photos, you can have more flexibility in what you wear and where you have photos taken. Being able to make these choices can make your engagement photos more sentimental and true to who you are as a couple. And, that’s an amazing thing!
So, long story short, as a wedding photographer and relatively recent bride, I highly recommend having engagement photos taken!
A handful of these amazing couples featured below became husband and wife in 2019, but most will celebrate their marriages in 2020. And, I can’t wait!
To VRP brides and grooms, thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer! I just adore you all and am so thankful for each and every one of you.

Those blooms at Wea Creek Orchard!
I’m so thankful to live in Lafayette, Indiana because it makes shooting both in Chicago and Indianapolis, as well as beautiful, rural areas easy!
It was so much fun to visit and shoot in San Diego for the first time for J.R. and Lizzie’s engagement session!
I don’t shoot engagement photos in the winter unless there is beautiful, fluffy snow. The Midwest is pretty gray and brown in the winter, but you can’t beat a snow session!
I still can’t get over this truck from Bret and Leslie’s engagement session!
