Engagement sessions don’t get anymore perfect than this, and I’m so excited to share Kavan and Katie’s Chicago Museum Campus engagement photos on the blog!
Katie & Kavan aren’t quite sure when they went from being friends to dating.
Before we dive into their engagement photos, I can’t help sharing how this darling couple came to be.
Kavan and Katie met at work. They were both data analysts and quickly became friends. They hung out both in and outside of the office, and whether they were working, bowling, checking out bars and restaurants, hanging out on Lake Michigan, or exploring Chicago, they loved being together.
One night, Katie and Kavan went to a concert with friends, and while Kavan was out of earshot, Katie told a friend, “So, I think Kavan and I are dating?”
The friend responded, “Umm. You definitely are.”
Now, after six years of being best friends and becoming more, Kavan and Katie are getting married!

I’m always up for traveling for sessions, and considering Kavan and Katie call Chicago home and love their city, shooting in Chicago only made sense!
To give their photos both an elegant feel and to include the water (Kavan and Katie have a boat and love being on Lake Michigan!), this darling couple opted for Chicago Museum Campus engagement photos. And, looking at their images, I’m so glad they did!
Now, I do think it’s important to note that when Zach and I left for Chicago, the weather report said there was a 0% chance of rain. But, when we woke up on Saturday morning, it was clear that the weatherman was wrong.
It rained for most of Saturday, and Katie and I texted back and forth trying to decide if we should reschedule their session for the next morning.
I told Katie, “I want you to love your photos and am more than happy to do whatever you guys are most comfortable with!”
Thankfully, Katie and Kavan decided to push through, because the weather cleared, and the sun peeked out as soon as their session started! I’m so glad we didn’t reschedule their photos, because the light couldn’t have been anymore perfect!
Katie & Kavan’s wedding is going to be a dream!
While Katie and Kavan live in Chicago now, their wedding will be held on Kavan’s family’s property in Rochester, Indiana. How special is that?!
Urban Allure Events is designing and coordinating the day, which will include a sailcloth tent, rustic chairs, and farmhouse tables with lots of greenery and pops of white and gold.
I have no doubt that Kavan and Katie’s wedding day is going to be sentimental, beautiful, and fun. September 7, 2019 can’t get here soon enough!

I love how Kavan and Katie explain their relationship on their wedding website, “Since 2013, [Kavan and Katie] have created a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and fun.”
Future Mr. and Mrs. Hoff, after meeting you in person, I now know this statement couldn’t be anymore true. While I know your wedding will be wonderful, I have no doubt that your marriage will be even more incredible.
I pray that you’re always best friends, you never stop laughing together, and you continue to shut down bars and restaurants. (Katie and Kavan went out to dinner and checked out a new speakeasy near their place after their engagement session. Based on Katie’s Instagram story, the couple shut it down and had a great night!)

Katie is a BEAUTY! And, on the day of her and Kavan’s engagement session, she took my advice and had her hair and makeup professionally done. She got extra lucky, because as it turned out, a world renowned makeup artist was visiting Nordstrom that day and did Katie’s makeup!
Kavan chose Katie’s ring on his own. Isn’t it a dream?!
