One of Alex and Hannah’s favorite date nights includes packing a picnic and simply chatting and spending time together outside. So, when I asked them where they wanted to take their engagement photos, they instantly knew.
After spending an evening with this sweet couple, I’m so excited to share Alex and Hannah’s engagement photos at Ross Hills Park in West Lafayette, Indiana—one of their favorite picnic spots—on the blog!
A couple years ago, Hannah and Alex thought they were just going to a Cru “class dinner.” Neither had any idea that they were about to meet their future spouse!
Hannah didn’t always attend these dinners due to her busy class schedule, but after friends encouraged her to go, she agreed to make this one a priority.
Alex and Hannah hadn’t met before, but they happened to sit across from one another that evening, and they got to talking. Alex was majoring in engineering, but when Hannah said that she was studying speech pathology, his ears perked up.
“Do you know anything about cochlear implants?” he asked.
“I do actually,” Hannah said. “We’re learning about them now.”
Alex has a brother with cochlear implants, and Alex and Hannah enjoyed an in depth conversation about the technology.
“I was surprised by how mature he was,” Hannah told me when she explained how she and Alex met. “He wasn’t like other college guys.”
Over the next few months, Alex and Hannah’s paths crossed here and there at Cru events, and Hannah was always surprised by how Alex managed to remember so much about her—like about her grad school plans for instance.
At the time, Hannah was dating someone else, but when that relationship ended, Alex asked Hannah if they could meet for lunch. From there, they scheduled their first official date to a jazz concert on campus.
And, after months of enjoying picnics, playing instruments, and watching movies together, Alex and Hannah are getting married!
Alex and Hannah’s proposal story is proof that Alex is a clever guy and a quick thinker!
You see, he had an amazing proposal plan figured out. He and Hannah both had riding in a hot air balloon on their bucket lists. So, Alex did some research and purchased tickets to go for a ride.
Then, he filled their families in on the plan and arranged for everyone to meet up at Hannah’s parents’ house so that they could celebrate together afterward.
While Alex and Hannah’s families were able to enjoy the day together and Hannah wasn’t at all suspicious of a proposal, at the last minute, Alex got a call that their balloon ride was cancelled due to bad weather.
Thinking that the proposal would just be postponed, Alex’s family headed home. But, Alex didn’t want to wait any long longer to pop the question.
So, as sneakily as he could, he came up with a new plan and recruited Hannah’s family’s help.
Thinking the day was essentially over, Hannah was surprised when Alex asked, “Hey, do you want to get the telescope out and look at the clouds?”
Hannah thought this was a slightly strange request, but she gave Alex a telescope for Christmas, and they used it regularly to look at the stars, so she didn’t think much of it.
“Sure,” she said, being a team player.
Alex set the telescope up outside and told Hannah to take a look.
When she looked, Alex had the telescope pointing through one of the windows of her parents’ house where Hannah could see a sign that read, “Will you marry me?”
Alex, I have no idea how you managed to come up with an equally as wonderful proposal on the fly, but props to you, friend! You’re a keeper for sure!
Like I said before, Alex and Hannah love packing picnics and just hanging out. And, Ross Hills Park is one of the first places that they picnicked which makes this location sentimental to them.
This sweet couple let me drag them all around the park to get fall leaves and the right light in the background and had no problem getting snuggled up in front of the camera.
Alex and Hannah, I loved hanging out with you guys and cannot wait to photograph you again on your big day!
Next August, Alex and Hannah will become husband and wife at the River Glen Country Club in Fishers, Indiana. It’s going to be a sweet, lovely, Christ-centered day. I have no doubt!
Alex and Hannah, thank you so much for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. You two are just the sweetest souls, and I can’t wait to get you in front of the camera again!
Congratulations, Alex and Hannah. I hope you love these previews from your engagement photos at Ross Hills Park in West Lafayette, Indiana!
