I don’t know about you, but looking at Bret and Leslie’s engagement photos makes me want to belt “Somethin’ ‘bout a Truck” by Kip Moore at the top of my lungs!
This darling couple made their engagement session sentimental in a few ways (more on that in a minute), and I’m so excited to share their engagement photos with an old Ford F-150 in Remington, Indiana on the blog!
Before we dive into their photos, I can’t help sharing a little bit of Bret and Leslie’s story!
You see, for years, Bret and Leslie kept running into one another. Bret is originally from Remington, Indiana (where he and Leslie live now), and Leslie is from Rensselaer, Indiana. These two small towns neighbor one another, and as a result, everybody kind of knows everybody.
Random fact: I’m from Remington, and Zach’s from Renssealer. We’ve actually known Bret, Leslie, and their families for years!
Before they started dating, Bret and Leslie knew of one another but didn’t have their first true interaction until mutual friends got married. And, I have to say, it was kind of a comical first interaction!
During the reception, Bret noticed Leslie across the room. At the time, he was living in Nashville and hadn’t seen Leslie—who is a few years younger—in years.
Bret made his way to Leslie and asked if he could buy her a drink. She essentially responded with, “No. I’m not 21 yet, and I have a boyfriend.”
Their first interaction may not have gone how Bret had hoped, but the world kept bringing Bret and Leslie together!
Not long after the wedding, Bret moved back to Remington to help run his family’s business, Ulyat Trucking. And, around the same time, Leslie became an intern at Wilsons, a company Ulyat Trucking works with quite a bit.
Whenever Bret went to Wilsons, Bret and Leslie saw one another and chatted for a few minutes. For years, these two saw each other in passing.
But, when the timing was finally right and Leslie was single, Bret texted his future wife. They’ve been best friends and together ever since!
Funnily enough, the weekend Bret asked Leslie to be his wife, the Smiths (Leslie’s family) had family photos with me.
I was secretly wondering if Bret was going to pop the question during the session (So was Ashley! A mutual friend and VRP bride.), but nobody had said anything to me, and I didn’t want to ask. Throughout the whole session, I just kept eyeing Bret making sure that I wasn’t about to miss a big moment!
Bret didn’t proposed during the session, but he did the very next day!
Wanting it to be just the two of them, Bret took Leslie to a spot that means a lot to him. A few years ago, Bret discovered an old country road between Remington and Rensselaer with a gorgeous tunnel of trees. Bret tends to drive out there when he needs to think.
As a result, this spot has become special to Bret, and he decided this would be the perfect place to ask his best friend to be his wife.
How sweet is that?!
Leslie, of course, said yes, and these two will officially become husband and wife next September!
Now, I have to say, I just love how sentimental this darling couple is!
While I’m more than happy to make location suggestions for engagement photos, I think it’s an amazing thing when couples have places that are special to them that we can use for their photos!
Bret and Leslie didn’t just have locations in mind; they also had a vehicle in mind!
We started Bret and Leslie’s engagement session in their backyard, which is stunning. Talk about light that comes through trees just perfectly!
Then, we made our way out to the spot Bret proposed with Bret’s 1963 Ford F-150, which used to belong to Bret’s grandpa!
Knowing this truck meant a lot to Bret, a few years ago, Bret’s grandpa sold his old Ford to his grandson for $1 (for title purposes). And, Bret and his other grandpa worked hard to update the truck, making it drivable and giving it a black, matte finish.
With this truck being so special to Bret and Leslie, it absolutely needed to be worked into their engagement photos!
So, we took it out to the road where Bret and Leslie decided on forever. And, I’m so glad we did! An engagement session can’t get any more country perfect than this!
In 2020, Bret and Leslie will tie the knot over Labor Day weekend at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer, Indiana and then dance the night away at the Jasper County Fairgrounds!
Bret and Leslie, I can’t tell you how much I adore you guys or how honored I am that you’re trusting me to be your wedding photographer!
I have no doubt that your wedding is going to be amazing! But, for now, I hope you love these previews from your engagement session!
