Knowing the question was going to be popped in the near future and that she and Mat were wanting a spring 2021 wedding, Kara reached out to me in September 2019 to get a quote so she could save and plan ahead for wedding photography.
After months of being friends online and messaging back and forth, I was so excited when Kara messaged me to say that she and Mat were officially engaged! And, now, I’m thrilled to share their fall Fairfield Lakes Park engagement photos in Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!
Instagram brought Mat & Kara together.
Mat and Kara have a very millennial dating story. You see, Mat and Kara went to the same high school, but they were in different classes and didn’t know one another well.
However, after high school, Mat liked one of Kara’s photos on Instagram.
Curious about what Mat was up to post school, Kara clicked on Mat’s profile and returned the favor by liking one of his photos.
Then, Mat liked another one of Kara’s posts, so Kara returned the favor again. This continued until Mat messaged Kara, they started talking, and decided to go to Taco Bell together.
They’ve been best friends ever since, and now, they’re getting married!
Mat popped the question by the lake.
Mat and Kara had been discussing marriage for a while, and Mat planned an epic proposal. With the help of their friends and family, Mat designed a scavenger hunt for Kara.
However, lockdowns and quarantine due to COVID put a damper on these plans.
Not wanting to wait any longer to officially make Kara his fiancée, Mat decided to scale back the proposal. With tears in his eyes, he asked Kara to be his wife by the lake on his parents’ property in Monticello, Indiana.
“It was sweet and perfect,” Kara told me when she told me their engagement story.
Now, this darling couple is officially engaged and will get married in May 2021 at New Journey Farms in Lafayette, Indiana!

Since they’ll have a gorgeous spring wedding, Mat and Kara wanted to do their engagement photos in the fall.
After discussing location options, they decided on fall Fairfield Lakes Park engagement photos. This happens to be one of my favorite locations to shoot at—especially in the fall—so I was thrilled that Mat and Kara wanted to take their engagement photos at this lovely, local park!
During their session, it quickly became clear how much Mat and Kara truly love being around one another. I mean, during the moments where we tried to take sweet, serene photos (think closed eyes and closed mouth smiles), Mat and Kara would burst out laughing!
“I’m sorry,” Kara said. “I just can’t help smiling!”
Mat and Kara, I pray you always feel that way when you’re together.

On May 1, 2021, Mat and Kara will become husband and wife at the gorgeous New Journey Farms venue in Lafayette, Indiana. Their wedding is going to be lovely, and their dance floor will be packed. There’s no doubt in my mind!
Mat and Kara, congratulations on your engagement, and thank you so much for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. You guys are so much fun to simply hang out with, and I cannot wait to celebrate with you next year.
