When Soe contacted me about taking her and Kirk’s engagement photos, one of the first things she said was, “I would definitely love to do a garden engagement shoot.” So, that’s exactly what we did!
Between their perfect location choice, stunning outfits, sweet demeanors, and just who Kirk and Soe are as people, I loved every minute of this engagement session, and I’m so excited to share just a handful of my favorite images from Kirk and Soe’s garden engagement photos at Newfields on the blog!
First of all, did you know Facebook had a dating app? A few years ago, Facebook tried its hand at creating a dating app within its platform. (Side note: Facebook does still have a dating feature. It just looks quite a bit different these days.) And, Soe and Kirk were both targeted for the beta launch of this app and decided to give it a try.
And, after hearing Soe and Kirk’s story, I have to say that I’m shocked that Facebook’s dating app was short lived, because it certainly worked for Soe and Kirk!
After meeting online, Soe and Kirk decided to meet for coffee. While they were both from the Fort Wayne area, they’d never met and were shocked by how easy it was to talk to one another about their values, passions, goals, dreams, and just any and everything.
Since then, Soe and Kirk have been taking interest in one another’s passions (Soe was even inspired to purchase an ‘89 Miata as a result of Kirk’s love for classic cars!), eating a lot of spaghetti (This is Soe’s absolute favorite food.), getting dressed up, visiting Cake Bake whenever they can, and just enjoying life together and supporting one another. And, when Soe was accepted to grad school in Indianapolis, Kirk happily found a new job and made the move south with her.
While the Facebook dating app may not have caught on, it was clearly meant to be—at least for a short time—because it resulted in the beginning of Kirk and Soe’s story!
While Kirk, Soe, and their families are from Fort Wayne, Indiana, they didn’t know one another until Kirk and Soe began dating. However, their families certainly know one another now!
Kirk and Soe are both very close to their families. As a result and with the proximity of their families, Kirk and Soe’s families regularly spend time together and have already become one big, happy family.
With their families already planning to be together for the Fourth of July, Kirk decided that July 4, 2022 was the perfect day to propose without raising too much suspicion from Soe.
So, while Kirk, Soe, and their families were at a park that afternoon, Kirk asked Soe to marry him!
They were then able to spend the rest of the day celebrating their engagement with the people they love most and even concluded their engagement day with fireworks. How sweet is that?!
While Soe and Kirk became fiancés in summer 2022, they don’t have a wedding day set quite yet. As they told me during their engagement session, they are going to wait until Soe is finished with grad school to get married.
“We want to be able to enjoy our wedding without being stressed, but we were ready to make a commitment to one another,” Kirk eloquently explained as we walked through Newfields’ gardens.
Now, like I mentioned before, Soe knew before even booking her and Kirk’s engagement photos that she wanted to take them in a garden. And, I don’t want to speak for her, but I think it’s safe to say that Newfields fit Soe’s vision perfectly!
Soe and Kirk met me at Newfields—which in case you aren’t familiar are the grounds and gardens around the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the historic Lilly House—with five outfits between the two of them (three for Soe and two for Kirk). And, guys, Soe and Kirk just looked amazing!
I mean, I love that they decided to wear formal attire for their engagement photos. This choice made their engagement photos whimsical, classic, and timeless. Even when Soe and Kirk celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, there’s no doubt in my mind that those who look at Soe and Kirk’s engagement photos will compliment their outfits!
I could gush about this oh-so-sweet couple and their perfect outfits for a very long time, but I think their photos will do a better job of showing you how Soe and Kirk just killed it. So, keep scrolling to see Kirk and Soe’s garden engagement photos at Newfields!
Kirk and Soe, congratulations on your engagement! After just getting to spend an hour and a half with the two of you and getting to hear your story, it’s easy to see that the two of you are a perfect match. I mean, you support one another endlessly, do an incredible job of consulting one another and making decisions, share the most important values, and clearly enjoy one another’s company above all else.
Thank you so much for trusting me to document this milestone for you. Now, I’m thrilled to be able to share just a handful of my favorites from your garden engagement photos at Newfields on the blog!
When Soe and Kirk filled out their questionnaire before their session, Soe mentioned that she loves fashion. And, this certainly showed! I mean, how can you not love everything about this formal look?! At the beginning of their session, Kirk and Soe expressed that they both prefer photos with closed-mouth smiles. As a result, their final gallery is full of the photos with the most perfect soft smiles and model-worthy smolders! I’m sorry, but can we admire Soe’s dress for a minute? I mean, it was meant for (1) Soe to wear it and (2) to be photographed in this garden. Right?! I think it’s safe to say Soe’s dream of taking her and Kirk’s engagement photos in a garden came true!
