One of my favorite things about living in Lafayette, Indiana is that it’s full of incredible small businesses and hardworking small business owners—including my good friend Kelli of Hair by Kelli Taylor.
Kelli is a phenomenal hairstylist, and I always look forward to sitting in her chair. Whether you’re looking to have your hair cut or colored or you’re looking for a stylist for bridal and wedding hair, I cannot recommend Kelli enough.
And, because Kelli is so great at what she does and equally fun to hang out with, I love that I get to shoot quarterly branding photos for her. (You can see some of her previous branding sessions here!) Now, I’m so excited to share Kelli’s March 2021 hairstylist branding photos in downtown Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!
Kelli wanted to incorporate downtown Lafayette into this session.
Our past shoots have included taking photos in Kelli’s salon and even photos of Kelli with her dog and husband. But, this time, Kelli wanted to highlight more of downtown Lafayette in her branding photos.
So, after grabbing a few photos of Kelli with Mackey (her goldendoodle who happens to be Hattie’s brother) at my house, Kelli and I headed downtown and started her session at Reveille Coffee Bar.
This adorable coffee shop is French inspired and between their cozy decor, delicious coffees and teas, and croissants I can’t say no to, Reveille has become my favorite coffee shop in Lafayette to work from.
So, needless to say, when Kelli said she wanted to use a coffee shop for her March session, Reveille instantly came to mind, and I’m so thankful that Michelle allowed us to use her space.
Side note: Michelle Wise is one of the owners of The Wine Cellar Bistro, and she also opens Reveille. Michelle and her team have created two incredible small businesses that I may or may not spend far too much time in, but I can’t recommend either of these locations enough!
After grabbing photos of the lovely Kelli Taylor in Reveille, we ventured further downtown, Kelli made an outfit change, and we grabbed a few more photos against photogenic walls and in other cute places we discovered along the way.
Now, typically, I shoot all photo sessions at sunrise and sunset, because this is when the light is best. The soft light that comes from the rising and setting sun helps make light-and-airy, creamy, dreamy photos possible. But, you can get similar results from even shade, and since Kelli wanted to have photos taken downtown, we were able to do her shoot in the afternoon because the buildings offer even shade.
As always, Kelli killed her session! I mean, she’s such a beauty, and she always arrives with outfits prepared and ready to go!
Why have branding photos taken?
Kelli does a phenomenal job of taking photos of her clients and their hair. I mean, just look at her Instagram account. You can’t scroll through it without feeling inspired to make a hair appointment!
As a hairstylist, it’s so important for Kelli to share photos of her work, but it’s also important for Kelli herself to be in the images she shares so that her potential and current clients can see her and connect with her.
As a result, Kelli takes all kinds of photos of her clients in her salon, but she trusts me to shoot branding photos of her a few times a year. I look forward to every time I get to work with this incredible woman, hairdresser, and business owner!

Isn’t this coffee shop adorable?! It makes me want to put wallpaper in my house! 
Bringing accessories and props with you is an easy way to change things up in your branding photos. For this session, Kelli brought her iPad, phone, and this cute hat. Accessories and props allow us to get a lot of variety in just a little time. Kell is always so prepared! 
Doesn’t Kelli seem very Carrie-Bradshaw-esque here?! She’s a doll!
