On a fantastic Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of driving just eight minutes from my house (We’re loving Indy by the way!) and meeting up with the sweetest couple for their engagement photos.
Considering Abby and Jared’s wedding will include lots of neutral colors, Abby really wanted to shoot their engagement photos at a location with neutral colors. And, with all of the limestone within just a few blocks in Downtown Indianapolis, Downtown Indy was the perfect location.
I can’t begin to explain how much I loved hanging out with Abby and Jared or how they were such troopers through their chilly shoot. But, I’m so excited to share their March engagement photos in Downtown Indianapolis on the blog!
Now, before you check out Abby and Jared’s engagement photos, we have to discuss how they met, because it’s a truly comical story.
You see, about two years ago, Abby and Jared added one another on Snapchat by mistake. They both thought the other was someone else they knew. Realizing the mishap, they laughed about it, got to talking, and a few weeks later, Jared asked the girl he met on Snapchat on a date.
But, COVID happened. Abby and Jared’s very first date took place not long after the world started to open back up after lockdowns. Wanting to be cautious but have fun, they decided that their first date would include hanging out in Abby’s grandparents’ pasture painting the sunset.
How sweet is that?!
Since then, Abby and Jared have become inseparable. From their own date nights—which often include bowling with friends and trying new foods—to Jared becoming another valuable set of hands on the Richardson family farm, Abby and Jared have loved doing life together over the last two years. And, now, they’re getting married!
While Abby knew Jared was going to pop the question soon (Heck, they’d even booked their wedding venue and wedding photography package!), she had no idea when Jared would propose.
Then, when she began to be suspicious considering they’d scheduled a time with a friend to take couple photos, Jared threw Abby off entirely by telling her the ring had been lost in the mail. (To be fair, it kind of did. It proved to be a pain to have the ring delivered to a FedEx pickup location.)
Not wanting to stress Jared out about the ring, Abby shrugged it off, knew it would work out, and was just excited to have photos taken with Jared.
Then, while they were in the middle of the same field taking photos where they painted sunsets on their very first date, Jared got down one knee and asked Abby to be his wife.
She—of course—said, “Yes!”
With busy schedules and their October 2022 wedding quickly approaching, Jared and Abby wanted to get their engagement photos in sooner rather than later.
So that their engagement photos weren’t filled with sad, bare trees, I encouraged them to choose an engagement photo location with buildings and architecture to detract from Indiana’s tendency to look gray and brown in March.
After discussing photo location options, Abby and Jared ultimately decided to take their March engagement photos in Downtown Indianapolis. And, if you ask me, this was the perfect location for them!
Abby and Jared’s wedding will include neutral colors with pops burgundy, burnt orange, peach, and lots of pampas grass. Wanting to keep their photos consistent with these colors (Abby is very detail oriented!), Downtown Indianapolis was going to give them a photo location with colors that complimented their wedding colors well. Then, Abby and Jared dressed in colors similar to their wedding color palette and just brought the whole thing together!
For Abby and Jared’s session, we specifically used The Indiana War Memorial, The Soldiers & Sailors Monument, and a few spots in between. We were able to get a lot of variety in a matter of about three blocks, which was great, especially considering how cold it was!
Also, fun fact, this was Jared’s very first time to Downtown Indianapolis! For many people who live in northern Indiana, venturing to Chicago just makes more sense than driving hours south. Jared, I hope your first trip to Downtown Indianapolis was a great, memorable one!
Abby and Jared, I was excited about your wedding before, but after having the pleasure of taking your engagement photos, I cannot wait for October!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. Now, I hope you love these previews of your March engagement photos in Downtown Indianapolis!
