Mr. & Mrs. Wallace: Anniversary/Maternity Photos at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana

Year one of marriage has been a big, exciting year for Jesse and Miryam. I mean, they bought a house and are expecting a baby! 

As a result, Jesse and Miryam’s anniversary session (which they received as a VRP bride and groom) turned into a maternity session, and I’m so excited to share this darling couple’s anniversary/maternity photos at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!

 

A Few Thoughts on Year One According to the Wallaces

This year, I’ve been  challenging VRP brides and grooms to get real about marriage and share their thoughts on a few different marriage-related topics in hopes of showing other newlyweds that marriage takes work and intentionality to truly thrive.

And, Jesse and Miryam were willing to share their thoughts!

 

1. What have been the highlights of year one of marriage?

“The first year was full of growth and new experiences. The biggest highlights included moving into a new house together and starting our own family. We had a lot of small milestones that were great and taught us a lot about ourselves. We feel as though the first year of marriage created a strong foundation for the years to come.” 

 

2. What’s the best part about being married?

“The best thing about being married is knowing that no matter what, you have a lifelong partner. We know that even if it feels like the world is against us, he will support me and I will support him.”

 

3. What’s something that’s been more difficult about being married than you expected?

“Communicating as a married couple has been the hardest. We feel as though people avoid many conversations in the first year of marriage to avoid fights. This is not a healthy habit to start and can cause more problems down the road. You need to communicate about everything, whether it is thanking them for doing the chores or telling them when something upsets you. Communication is key.” 

 

4. What’s one piece of advice that you’d give to newlyweds?

“The best advice we can offer is to not compare your marriage to others. Every relationship is different. What works for someone else’s marriage may not work for you. So, it’s okay to listen to advice, but just be sure it makes sense for your relationship.”

Jesse and Miryam, it’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since your elegant backyard wedding, but so much has changed for you guys in just a year.
