James and Shelby’s takeaway after their chilly maternity session? When you’re planning your family, think about when you’ll need to take your maternity photos so you don’t have to freeze!
While it was certainly a cold shoot, I was so honored to get to take James and Shelby Coppock’s maternity photos at Holcomb Gardens in Indianapolis, and I’m thrilled to share just a handful of my favorites on the blog!
I met James & Shelby through City of God Church in Lafayette, Indiana.
Now, it’s a privilege to take maternity photos for all couples. But, I have to say it was a particular honor to take these images for the Coppocks because James and Shelby are actually friends of ours.
You see, when we lived in Lafayette, James and Shelby were part of our City Group—City of God’s version of small groups. As a result, we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know James and Shelby over the last couple years, seeing them become homeowners, and now parents! (City Group was one of the first places James and Shelby shared they were expecting, which I thought was so sweet!)
As a result, I know that James and Shelby have hearts for the Lord and that they’re going to do their best to raise their son (Who has arrived by the way!) to know and love Jesus. And, that makes me teary eyed just thinking about it!
James and Shelby, I have no doubt that your little guy has the best parents. He’s going to be blessed for all his days!
Wanting a pop of spring, James & Shelby decided to take their maternity photos at Holcomb Gardens in Indianapolis.
With an April due date, this resulted in James and Shelby needing to take maternity photos in March. Unfortunately, Indiana doesn’t tend to get very green until late April or early May.
But, Shelby really wanted to shoot their maternity photos in a nature-like location. Thankfully, Butler University’s beautiful garden tends to get some pops of color early on. And, as a result, the Coppocks and I decided to take their maternity photos at Holcomb Gardens in Indianapolis.
And, guys, it was such a sweet session. I mean, Shelby was glowing. James and Shelby—who arrived in their new-to-them minivan—were clearly so ecstatic to be parents. And, after our move to Indianapolis, seeing some Lafayette friends was just what my soul needed.
I hope James and Shelby enjoyed their shoot half as much as I did and that they love their images from this special season!

James and Shelby, as I write this blog post, you’ve already welcomed your little guy into the world. And, you’ve already received your full gallery, because I didn’t want you to have to wait until after he arrived to have your maternity photos.
While I hope you love your maternity photos, I hope you’re loving being a family of three far more. Congratulations, and thank you for trusting me to take your maternity photos at Holcomb Gardens in Indianapolis!
