As a wedding photographer, wedding days are pretty exhausting. You’re on your feet in dress shoes for 10+ hours; you’re carrying lots of equipment; and you’re pretty much guaranteed to break a sweat (no matter what the weather is like). But, guys, couples like Jordan and Yvonne are exactly why I do what I do. I mean, I would relive this Ross-Ade Stadium wedding at Purdue University every Saturday if I could!
I’m excited for all of my couples’ wedding days, but since taking Jordan and Yvonne’s engagement photos in the spring, I’ve been dying for their big day to arrive. Jordan and Yvonne are some of the most joy-filled people I’ve ever met, and their joy, love for others, and fun personalities made their wedding day one of my favorites of all time!
They aren’t necessarily football fans (In fact, Yvonne said she’s never even been to a Boilermaker football game!), but Jordan and Yvonne had a Ross-Ade Stadium wedding at Purdue University.
Last year, Jordan’s sister—Bailey (who was a bridesmaid)—and her husband got married at this venue, and the whole family fell in love. So, Yvonne and Jordan also decided to have their wedding at Ross-Ade.
This venue is on Purdue’s campus, but it’s run by Levy Restaurants. I want to give a big shout out to Ashley Adams, Levy’s on-site wedding coordinator. As a vendor, Ashley was such a joy to work with. And, the fact that Jordan and Yvonne asked me to grab a photo of them with her is a testament to how well she served them!
One of my favorite things about Yvonne and Jordan’s wedding was how they blended two cultures together. While Jordan has lived in West Lafayette his entire life, Yvonne is from Shanghai, China and came to the United States to study engineering at Purdue.
Jordan and Yvonne come from two entirely different backgrounds, which they’ll tell you has made life both challenging and fun. They’ve figured out how to blend their cultures in their relationship, and they did the same on their wedding day.
For example, Yvonne made each place card by hand (She’s a very talented artist by the way.). On one side, she put each guest’s name in English, and on the other, she wrote each name in Chinese. Guests LOVED this little touch!
Random Fact: Jordan and Yvonne are having a US wedding AND a wedding in China. They’ll tie the knot again in March!
Jordan and Yvonne’s colors, attire, and everything else were lovely, but their wedding day will forever be one of my favorites for another reason: Jordan and Yvonne love others well.
In the midst of their wedding festivities, they made sure that Yvonne’s parents (who traveled from China for the big day and don’t speak English) were comfortable, went out of their way to personally thank each of their vendors and even gave us thank you gifts (This was SO sweet!), and circled tables constantly to make sure their guests were having a good time. On top of that, Jordan gave a heartfelt speech about love and how thankful he was to their friends and families.
August 11, 2018 may have been Jordan and Yvonne’s wedding day, but they did not make their big day about themselves. Instead, they used their celebration to serve and honor others.
Yvonne and Jordan, your wedding day was beautiful, and I couldn’t be happier for you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer and for being such wonderful, genuine, kind people.
May you have many years of blessings! And, I can’t wait to see you for your anniversary session!
