And, the award for coldest engagement session ever goes to Ryan and Katie!
Guys, I wish I had a trophy for this darling couple, because their engagement session was FREEZING. But, they were INCREDIBLE through the whole thing, and I think it’s safe to say they don’t even look a little chilly in their engagement photos! They’re such troopers!
So, a little backstory. When Katie and I met for coffee, she told me she really wanted snowy engagement photos. I watched the weather closely, and we just weren’t getting a break.
We set a date hoping that the snow would last, but rain caused a lot of it to melt, and the windchill was very low. I offered to reschedule their session, but Katie told me not to worry. A little cold wouldn’t bother them, and she really wanted to get their engagement photos in before they left for vacation. (They went to Arizona, where it was much warmer.)
So, we powered through, God blessed us with some snow flurries, and I’m so excited to share Ryan and Katie’s winter engagement photos in Otterbein, Indiana on the blog!
I was DYING when Katie explained how she and Ryan met. Basically, Katie’s cousin (who is also her hairstylist) and Ryan’s sister-in-law worked together and decided that Ryan and Katie belonged together.
But, before connecting them through Facebook, Katie’s cousin decided she needed to do some damage control. She texted Katie saying, “Change your profile pic. It’s not cute.”
Used to her cousin’s brutal honesty that’s always out of love, Katie changed her profile photo. Then, her cousin told her that Ryan had her info and would contact her soon.
A few days went by, and Katie hadn’t heard anything from Ryan. She told her cousin that she was giving Ryan two weeks to get in touch, and if she didn’t hear from him, she wasn’t interested.
On the last day of Katie’s two-week deadline, Ryan sent her a Facebook message, and as it turns out, Katie’s cousin and Ryan’s sister-in-law were absolutely right. Ryan and Katie were a perfect match!
While I’m more than happy to give engagement session location suggestions, engagement sessions are extra special when couples already have a location in mind, and Ryan and Katie definitely did!
You only have to talk to Ryan and Katie for about two seconds to realize that their families are everything to them. They spend a lot of time with their siblings, cousins, parents, and grandparents and fit into one another’s families perfectly.
Not only is Ryan’s family close, but they also farm together and are neighbors. I mean, his parents live on one side of the road, his brother and his family live across the street, and his grandparents live just down the road. And, Ryan and Katie are in the process of building their own home nearby!
Naturally, Ryan and Katie wanted to have their engagement photos taken on the the family farm in Otterbein, Indiana, so that’s exactly what we did!
Not only was this sentimental, but it also made my job super easy, because every location I wanted to use within a square mile belonged to Ryan’s family. We could just walk on any property and start shooting without worrying about trespassing. We just got a friendly wave from people driving by and property owners. It was great!
Here’s another fun fact about this couple. They’ll tie the knot exactly one year after getting engaged!
On December 7, 2018, Katie thought she and Ryan were just going to enjoy a casual Friday night out with her brother and sister-in-law. But, when she finished getting ready and came out into her living room, Ryan popped the question while Katie’s brother and sister-in-law captured the whole thing on camera.
After she said yes, Katie’s parents, Ryan’s parents, and the rest of their siblings and their families arrived to celebrate with them. See! I told you family’s important to them!
When Ryan and Katie looked at the 2019 calendar and saw that December 7, 2019 was a Saturday, they decided that December 7 was the perfect date for a wedding!
I guess I should’ve known Ryan and Katie would be troopers in the cold for their engagement photos considering they’re planning a winter wedding!
Ryan and Katie, I can’t tell you how honored I am to be your wedding photographer! You two are wonderful on your own, balance each other out perfectly, and make an incredible team. I have no doubt that your marriage will be an example to many.
Congratulations, and thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer! I’m so excited for your big day to arrive!
