Between a global pandemic, getting engaged, losing Lizzie’s mom, and planning a wedding in just three months, 2020 has been a stressful, heartbreaking, and exciting year for Lizzie and Patrick.
But, on Saturday, August 22, 2020, Lizzie and Patrick became husband and wife with big smiles, a packed dance floor, a worship-filled ceremony, a surprise choreographed dance performed by the Yoder fam, and lots of joy.
And, I’m so excited to share Lizzie and Patrick’s Spohn Ballroom wedding in Goshen, Indiana on the blog!
While Lizzie and Patrick managed to plan their big day in just three months (They’re total champs!), their marriage has been on their loved one’s hearts for years.
In every speech, Patrick and Lizzie’s friends and family shared that they’d been praying that Patrick and Lizzie would eventually find the right, Christ-loving person to do life with. In fact, Lizzie’s dad mentioned that he’d been praying for Lizzie’s future husband since she was a baby girl.
(Side note: Speeches were also filled with a lot of jokes at Patrick’s expense! You see, these two dated about four years ago, and Patrick called it quits when grad school got stressful. At the time, his choice was very thoughtful, but that didn’t stop Lizzie’s dad, maid of honor, or Patrick’s best man from giving Patrick a hard time during speeches!)
As a result, August 22, 2020 was an answer to prayers (especially to Lizzie’s specific prayer for a “tall, athletic man who loves Jesus”) and deserved the epic celebration that it received!
While Lizzie’s family is from the Chicago area and Dr. and Mrs. Yoder now live in Lafayette, Patrick’s family is from the Goshen area. And, after looking at venues, Lizzie and Patrick decided that the Spohn Ballroom would be the perfect venue for their blush, flower-and-greenery-filled wedding!
Lizzie and Patrick’s wedding day began with Lizzie and her girls having their hair and makeup done in the Spohn’s adorable bridal suite. (There was lots of natural light and a couch that perfectly coordinated with Patrick and Lizzie’s colors! It was amazing!)
After getting ready, Lizzie and Patrick did their first look across the street at the Elkhart County Courthouse. (It’s always a huge bonus when a venue has a picturesque location within walking distance!) Then, Patrick and Lizzie’s bridesmaids and groomsmen joined us across the street for bridal party photos before it was time to walk down the aisle.
Patrick and Lizzie’s ceremony was beautiful. Not only did they stand under a lovely arch covered in roses, but their ceremony was God-centered and Christ-focused. All weddings are beautiful, but it’s particularly beautiful to witness two people promise to strive to love one another like Jesus loves us.
After their ceremony and grabbing a few more photos, it was time to party! And, Lizzie and Patrick’s reception was a party! Not only was their dance floor packed, but Patrick’s family surprised Lizzie and guests with a choreographed dance to a Lady Gaga song! It was amazing! The photos hardly do it justice, but when you see the look on Lizzie’s face below, you’ll understand how great it was!
After enjoying the dance floor with their friends and family, Lizzie and Patrick let me take them outside for a few sunset photos. Then, it was time for their grand, sparkler exit and for them to officially drive off as Mr. and Mrs. Yoder!
It was a wonderful, joy-filled day.
Lizzie and Patrick, I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am for the two of you or how honored I was to be your wedding photographer!
Since your engagement was short, I haven’t known the two of you long, but it only takes a few minutes of talking to you both to see how kind you are and how well you care for others.
I hope you love these previews from your Spohn Ballroom wedding in Goshen, Indiana! Congratulations, Dr. and Mrs. Yoder!
