Have you ever read a book or watched a movie where you just knew two people were supposed to be together, but life kept taking them in different directions until it was the perfect time for the couple to end up together?
Well, that’s exactly how Cody and Britney’s love story goes! This darling couple will become husband and wife in September 2021, and I’m so excited to share their downtown Lafayette, Indiana engagement photos on the blog!
Cody & Britney fell in love when they were just 13 & 14 years old.
While they went to different schools in neighboring towns, Cody and Britney met when they were in fourth and fifth grade. They had family that lived in the same smalltown, and as a result, their paths kept crossing.
Then, when they were in just seventh and eighth grade, Cody and Britney started “dating.” Looking back, Cody and Britney know it sounds crazy, but their young love was real love, and they continued dating through high school.
Side Note: Cody told Britney he loved her for the first time when they were 13 and 14 years old on the swings at the Wildcat Conservation Club in Mulberry, Indiana. As a result, they’ve decided to have an outdoor wedding at the Conservation Club. How sweet is that?!
After high school, however, life took Cody and Britney in different directions. Britney moved to Chicago, and Cody welcomed three little boys into the world.
It seemed like the end of Cody and Britney’s love story, but about five years ago, Cody and Britney found out that they were both single, and they picked up exactly where they left off.
Knowing Cody was the one and that he wanted to be close to his boys, Britney left Chicago—a city she loves and still visits whenever she can—and moved back to Indiana. Since then, Cody and Britney have welcomed two more little guys into the world and have had full schedules between their kiddos’ athletic activities, Britney coaching track and cross country, camping, and making weekend trips to Chicago as often as they can. And, now, they’re getting married!
Another Side Note: Cody and Britney have FIVE little boys total. I mean, they’re parenting the starting lineup for an entire basketball team! Their hands and hearts are full!

Because Cody did such a great job popping the question, I think it’s important to note that this amazing man planned not one but TWO proposals when the first proposal plan didn’t quite come together.
You see, Cody and Britney left the boys with family and sneaked away to Chicago for the night. They walked around the city, went to dinner, and just enjoyed some one-on-one time.
Now, Cody’s plan had been to pop the question by the water after dinner. However, when they left the restaurant, Britney was tired and said she’d really like to go back to the hotel.
Not wanting to wait to pop the question but wanting to ensure that the proposal was still sweet and perfectly them, Cody quickly came up with a backup plan to propose at home the next day with Cody and Britney’s five little guys present.
When they got home, Cody suggested that the family go to The Celery Bog in West Lafayette to walk and hike. Britney thought this was a great idea for some quality time since she and Cody had been away from the boys.
Britney thought they were simply having a normal Sunday afternoon, but while they were sitting by the water, Britney noticed their parents and more of their family walking toward them. And, at that moment, Cody got down on one knee and asked Britney to be his wife!
Cody’s Chicago proposal may not have gone as planned, but Cody and Britney value their family above all, and their proposal story couldn’t be anymore perfect for them or true to who they are.

Like I mentioned before, Cody and Britney will celebrate their marriage with an outdoor wedding at the Wildcat Conservation Club in Mulberry, Indiana. Knowing their wedding photos will be filled with nature, Cody and Britney decided to take their engagement photos in downtown Lafayette, Indiana for a little variety.
And, friend, they killed their engagement session! I mean, between their incredible outfits (These are engagement photo outfit goals by the way!), how they build one another up, and how much they enjoy being together, Cody and Britney were so much fun to photograph, and I cannot wait for their big day!

Britney’s dress and heels were just incredible! And, Cody looked great too. Like I said before, these are engagement outfit goals! Engagement photos are a special occasion, and I highly recommend getting dressed up like Cody and Britney did!
