Year one of marriage has been full of a lot of highlights for Zach and Kourtney Ellington. I mean, they bought a house, got a second puppy, are killing it in their careers, and are expecting a baby boy!
As a result, Zach and Kourtney’s anniversary session (which they received as a VRP bride and groom) turned into a maternity session, and I’m so excited to share this darling couple’s Fairfield Lakes Park maternity/anniversary photos in Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!
Side Note: Mini anniversary shoots are 30 minutes long, but with a little one on the way, Zach and Kourtney decided to upgrade to a full hour, which allowed them two outfits!
A Few Thoughts on Year One According to the Ellingtons
After anniversary sessions, I send couples a few questions and challenge them to get real about marriage in hopes of showing other newlyweds that (1) they aren’t alone and (2) that marriage takes work and intentionality to truly thrive.
And, Zach and Kourtney were willing to share their thoughts!
What have been the highlights of year one of marriage?
“We experienced a lot of good and memorable things our first year of marriage. We enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon where we were able to explore another country. We bought a house where we planned to start our family and grow as a couple! Right after putting in our offer on the house, we found out we were expecting, which was the most exciting news! We added another golden retriever puppy to our family and are patiently awaiting the arrival of our little guy in October!”
What’s the best part about being married?
“We were together for six years prior to getting married, so just continuing to grow and lean on each other throughout the many life milestones we are experiencing throughout our first year of marriage!”
What’s one piece of advice that you’d give to newlyweds?
“Make it a point to do date nights and spend quality time together! It is easy to get caught up in the fast pace that adult life comes with. But eating dinner together in the evenings and taking time to talk to each other is so important. Weekly date nights don’t have to be something extravagant, but it makes a point to really slow down and enjoy everything going on in your relationship once a week!”

Zach and Kourtney, it’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a year since your beautiful wedding at Bel Air Events. But, at the same time, a lot has changed for you guys. I mean, with a baby and a puppy, your family has nearly doubled in size!

Anniversary shoots include travel within 20 miles of Lafayette. (I’m more than happy to travel, but there is a small travel fee.) With Zach and Kourtney living in Chicago, they decided to schedule their shoot while they were home visiting family for the Fourth of July. This resulted with a 6:30 am sunrise shoot on a Monday! Zach and Kourtney, I’m so glad you guys were able to make this work!
