I understand how much your wedding photos mean to you and how much work you’re putting into planning every last detail of your big day. As a VRP bride, you can relax and enjoy your wedding day knowing you’ve chosen a team of photographers who are just as detail-oriented as you are, will put thought into every shot, and will pay attention to all of the little details to ensure that you and your spouse love your wedding photos.
I won’t lie. When I Googled Scott Freidel and Taylor Gillenwater’s wedding date and realized that their downtown Indianapolis wedding was going to be the same day as the Indianapolis half marathon, I was pretty nervous—especially considering this oh-so-sweet VRP bride and groom deserved nothing less than a perfect wedding day.
However, thanks to their careful planning, May 6, 2023 ended up being perfect in every way, and I’m so excited to share Mr. and Mrs. Freidel’s Historic Saint Joseph Hall wedding in downtown Indianapolis on the blog!
As I’ve gotten to know Scott and Taylor over the last year, in all of our conversations, their wedding priorities were very clear: to incorporate their faith (in a way that didn’t make their non-Catholic guests feel discluded) and to get to be present and enjoy every minute of their wedding day. And, I think it’s safe to say that these goals were accomplished!
Scott, Taylor, their bridal party, and their closest loved ones started the day by getting ready at Historic Saint Joseph Hall. With plenty of room for the guys to get ready in the venue, Historic Saint Joseph Hall also owns an Airbnb right next door (the bridal cottage) that the girls used as a bridal suite. How perfect is that?
Going back and forth between the venue and the Airbnb, Scott and Taylor’s wedding photography coverage started with detail photos, getting ready photos, and venue decor shots. Then, not wanting to see one another before their ceremony, Scott and Taylor shared a first touch and exchanged gifts on the steps in front of Historic Saint Joseph Hall.
Then, Scott and Taylor—along with their bridal party and parents—headed to Saint Mary Catholic Church—just a few blocks away in downtown Indianapolis—for the most beautiful ceremony. Saint Mary is a beautiful church, and that fact that Scott’s cousin Father Ethan Hokamp officiated only made Scott and Taylor’s ceremony more personal and true to them.
Following their ceremony and grand bubble exit from the church, Scott and Taylor had family photos taken inside Saint Mary Catholic Church. Then, we headed to White River State Park and the Indianapolis Canal Walk to take both bridal party photos (This bridal party was so much fun by the way!) and Mr. and Mrs. Freidel’s bride and groom portraits. The canal was busy, but with a little editing magic, you’d never know!
Following photos, we all headed to the portion of the day that Scott and Taylor were the most excited about: their Historic Saint Joseph Hall wedding reception. And, let’s just say from the delicious food to the packed dance floor (Carlos of The Simple DJ really kept the party going!), Scott and Taylor’s reception was a party from beginning to end!
We snuck the newlyweds outside for sunset photos before saying goodnight, and in all, it was a perfect day.
Before you scroll to see Scott and Taylor’s wedding photos, I can’t help sharing that Scott and Taylor became husband and wife with one of the most intentional wedding days I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing.
Some couples spend a lot of time planning their weddings so that their day will be “perfect.” And, Scott and Taylor’s wedding day was certainly perfect; however, they were so thorough in their planning for another reason: they wanted to be able to be fully present on their wedding day.
Between the letters they wrote and gifts they chose for one another, the people they chose to spend their day with, how they incorporated their faith into their wedding, and how they did an amazing job of truly being present for every moment, their celebration was a beautiful way to stay what will no doubt be a beautiful life.
Scott and Taylor, you guys are amazing, and I just want to give you major props for both your wedding mindset AND the epic wedding you planned!
Scott and Taylor, I truly cannot imagine a better way to kick off the 2023 wedding season than with your amazing jewel-tone wedding in downtown Indianapolis. Thank you so much for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. It was truly an honor.
While I cannot wait to share more photos with you, in the meantime, I hope you love these previews from your Historic Saint Joseph Hall wedding in downtown Indianapolis! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Freidel!
Take note! Scott and Taylor had the most perfect after-ceremony dip kiss! I still can’t get over this color palette. Taylor is all about the jewel tones. I mean, check out their engagement photos, and these colors came together so perfectly on Scott and Taylor’s big day.
