Mr. & Mrs. Hickner: A Barn at Bay Horse Inn Wedding
May 13, 2021With COVID, booking new VRP brides and grooms has been interesting. Coffee dates have had to become virtual, and as a result, I haven’t been able to meet most 2021 and 2022 couples in person until their engagement photos.
However, Cheyenne and I have been talking on the phone, emailing back and forth, and DMing one another regularly on social media for months. She feels like an old friend at this point, and I’m so thankful that I FINALLY got to meet this sweet VRP bride and the man who stole her heart in person. Because, they’re as sweet and fun as people come!
I’m counting the days until their October 2021 wedding at The Fowler House Mansion, and today, I’m thrilled to share their spring engagement photos at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana on the blog!
Cody & Cheyenne fell in love simply doing life together.
Now, you may want to grab a tissue, because Cheyenne and Cody have a beautiful love story.
You see, just a few years ago, Cheyenne and Cody met at work. They became friends, and while Cheyenne was suspicious that Cody might be interested in something more, she was a single mama focused on her kids.
Cheyenne was in the process of buying a home for herself, her son, and her daughter, and with the lease ending on her former place, she needed to find somewhere for her and her kids to stay until she could close on the new house.
She discussed this with friends at work and asked if anybody knew of somewhere she could rent temporarily. That’s when Cody said, “I have room. Why don’t you guys come stay with me until you get things worked out?”
While they lived under the same roof, Cheyenne witnessed how great Cody was with her kids and discovered how much she loved spending time with her coworker/friend outside of work. Cheyenne wasn’t looking to date, but she and Cody fell in love simply doing life together.
When it was time for Cheyenne and the kids to move, Cody asked Cheyenne, “What if you just stayed?”
Cheyenne and the kids stayed; Cody and Cheyenne welcomed another babe into the world; and now, they’re engaged!
Cody proposed with their help of their kids & and an Easter egg.
Cheyenne and Cody knew they wanted to get married in fall 2021. After all, they were already family.
With so many 2020 weddings being postponed due to COVID, they decided to start planning their wedding and chose a date before there was technically an engagement ring on Cheyenne’s finger. (Cheyenne’s a planner, and I just love her!)
Cheyenne and Cody began planning their wedding at the end of 2020, and Cody popped the question on Easter 2021 with the help of their kids.
While hunting eggs, Remington—their daughter and oldest—pretended said that she couldn’t reach an egg in a tree. While holding their youngest Cody asked Cheyenne, “Mama, will you help Sis with that egg?”
Cheyenne was confused, because she knew Remi could reach the egg if she tried, but Cheyenne walked over and grabbed the plastic egg, which read, “Will you marry me?”
Cheyenne opened the ring to find a bread tie in the shape of a ring, which is an inside joke between Cheyenne and Cody, because he’d “fake” proposed with a bread tie a couple years before. Cheyenne thought this was just another joke and laughed it off.
But, then, while holding their youngest son and with their two older kids present, Cody got down on one knee and asked Cheyenne to be his wife with a real diamond ring.
She, of course, said, “Yes!”
Cheyenne & Cody decided to take their spring engagement photos at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana.
When I asked Cheyenne and Cody about their engagement photos, Cody expressed that he’d like to take them somewhere with lots of nature.
We actually originally planned to take Cheyenne and Cody’s engagement photos at Wea Creek Orchard, but when the Orchard had to spray their trees on the day of Cheyenne and Cody’s shoot (You have to spray when you have to spray!), we quickly came up with a plan B.
Cheyenne and Cody followed me to Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana, and honestly, I’m so glad this happened. I mean, just wait until you see how Cheyenne’s dress looks in a field of wildgrasses!
Even with a last-minute change, Cheyenne and Cody went with the flow and trusted my judgement. On top of this, they thoughtfully gifted me with a bottle of wine and a box of goodies from The Charcuterie Girl!
Cody and Cheyenne aren’t just some of the good ones; they’re some of the best ones! And, I’m so honored that they’re trusting me to be their wedding photographer.
Like I said before, this was the first time that I had the pleasure of meeting Cheyenne and Cody in person, and I can now attest that these two have fun wherever they go as long they’re together.
Wanting to make the most of a night with a sitter, Cheyenne and Cody went downtown Lafayette before their session began for a bite, for drinks at Ritual, and for some one-on-one time. Then, based on their smiles and the way they made one another laugh constantly, I think it’s safe to say that they enjoyed their engagement photos. However, they didn’t enjoy their photos because of anything I did; they had a great time simply because they love being together.
Congratulations, Cheyenne & Cody!
Cheyenne and Cody, if this blog post doesn’t make it entirely clear, I adore you guys and am so honored that you’re trusting me to be your wedding photographer.
I’m counting down the days until you officially become husband and wife this October at your gorgeous Fowler House Mansion wedding. But, until then, I hope you love these previews from your spring engagement photos at Fairfield Lakes Park in Lafayette, Indiana!
In case you’re wondering, these are engagement photo outfit GOALS! I encourage couples to get dressed up, because (1) engagement photos are a special occasion and (2) dresses and suits never go out of style, which makes sure engagement photos stay classic. Cheyenne and Cody chose PERFECT outfits!
