I understand how much your wedding photos mean to you and how much work you’re putting into planning every last detail of your big day. As a VRP bride, you can relax and enjoy your wedding day knowing you’ve chosen a team of photographers who are just as detail-oriented as you are, will put thought into every shot, and will pay attention to all of the little details to ensure that you and your spouse love your wedding photos.
When I think about Richard and Kate Barrier’s rooftop wedding in downtown Indianapolis, one word comes to mind: perfect.
I mean, between the incredible weather, gorgeous rooftop venue with very attentive staff, flawless decor, a lovely champagne-and-lavender color palette, a very fun and helpful bridal party, a timeline that stayed on time all day long, a pup with the sweetest head tilt, a bride who literally plans events for a living, and a couple who was ecstatic to get married, Richard and Kate’s wedding day was perfect in every way.
And, I’m so excited to share photos from Richard and Kate’s JPS Events wedding in downtown Indianapolis on the blog!
Considering Kate plans corporate events for a living and is simply a very detail-oriented person AND a member of her bridal party is a wedding coordinator (I just adore Allison of Royal Weddings and Events by the way!), there was no doubt that Kate and Richard’s wedding day was going to be very well planned and executed.
Wanting to keep their day both beautiful and streamlined, Kate and Richard decided that JPS Events—a rooftop wedding venue in downtown Indianapolis—would be the perfect place to spend their first day as husband and wife.
Kate and Richard’s wedding day started with the girls getting ready in JPS Events’ bridal suite with hair by Wennen’s Beautique and makeup by Black Swan Beauty. (Please take a look at every flawless braid and all that perfect makeup!)
Then, when Megan (my second shooter) and I arrived, we began photographing Kate and Richard’s wedding details (e.g. dress, shoes, invitation suite, etc.)
After details were complete, the gentlemen arrived, and we moved on to groom getting-ready photos. Following these photos, the fellas were able to eat and take a nice, long break, and we moved on to bride and bridesmaid getting-ready photos. And, guys, just wait until you see photos of this portion of the day. Kate is such a model!
While we typically just do the bride’s first look with her dad and bridesmaids inside, JPS Events’ floor-to-ceiling windows provide great natural light inside the venue. As a result, Kate and Richard were able to do their first look among their reception decor.
While we knew the rooftop venue would allow us to take great sunset photos for Mr. and Mrs. Barrier, in the middle of the afternoon, the sun was just too harsh on the rooftop in the middle of the afternoon for portraits.
As a result, after Kate and Richard’s first look, Richard, Kate, their bridal party, and their immediate family headed over to The Indiana War Memorial with us—which is about a block and a half away from JPS Events—for photos.
Now, I do want to give a quick shout out to this darling bridal party, because they all showed up ready to go! Between having a wedding coordinator in the party, several members of the bridal party getting married within the last couple years (This friend group has had A LOT of weddings!), and just being kind individuals, this group of 13 was so much fun to work with!
Following photos, everyone headed back to JPS Events to prepare for Kate and Richard’s ceremony. And, this was also when Cruz—Richard and Kate’s sweet German Shepherd—arrived! Not wanting to stress Cruz out before her big debut down the aisle, Richard and Kate hired help with Cruz’s transportation. She arrived ready for the ceremony and so excited to see her mom and dad!
Now, a fun fact about Kate and Richard is that Kate’s dad, Todd, actually introduced them. He knew—even before Kate and Richard had met—that they would be a perfect fit. And, on his daughter’s wedding day, Todd walked his daughter down the aisle to a man he’s considered a friend and his son for a long time.
Kate and Richard shared vows that they’d written on the rooftop, officially became husband and wife, and were ready to celebrate with family and friends!
After their ceremony, we snuck in some photos with Cruz before the sweet pup went home for the night, and we took extended family photos inside.
We’d originally planned to take “just married” photos during that period as well. But, wanting to stick to the timeline and wait for the light to get a bit softer, Kate and Richard said they’d be willing to sneak out after dinner for a bit so the party could officially get started.
The rest of the night included truly great speeches, lots of fun on the dance floor, sunset photos, a sparkler dance, and Kilroy’s breadsticks as a late-night snack.
As I said before, every part of Kate and Richard’s wedding day was perfect. And, this kind, thoughtful couple deserved nothing less!
Leading up to their wedding day, Kate must’ve apologized to me at least a dozen times for sending me “so many” messages. But, I can honestly say that I was THRILLED with Kate and Richard’s communication.
You see, Kate and Richard wanted to be able to truly enjoy their wedding day. They didn’t want to leave anything to the last minute to figure out. They knew what their wedding priorities were, worked together to decide what they wanted their day to be like, took vendor advice when it was given, and were happy to adjust to plan B’s anytime plan B became the better option.
As a result, Kate and Richard were able to relax on their wedding day and be fully present. I hope this comes through in their photos, but as these two shared sweet glances all day long, it was clear that all they were thinking about was one another.
Kate and Richard, congratulations! I hope your wedding day was everything you hoped, dreamed, and planned it would be. You two are just so kind, thoughtful, and wonderful that you deserved nothing less than a flawless wedding, and I think it’s safe to say that your guests would agree with me that your day was literally perfect!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. I cannot wait to share your full gallery with you, but for now, I hope you love these previews from your JPS Events rooftop wedding in downtown Indianapolis!
It was so good to see these lovely ladies and Cody again! You see, I actually met Kate when she was a bridesmaid in Casey (second from the left) and Alex’s wedding. There was quite a bit of overlap in their bridal parties, which was just so much fun! I still can’t get over Kate’s hair. Wennen’s Beautique did an amazing job with all the ladies! Kate does this serious face so well! The Indiana War Memorial is just a block from JPS Events. With plenty of shade in the middle of the afternoon and colors that complemented Richard and Kate’s champagne and lavender color palette perfectly, it was a great location for couple, bridal party, and immediate family photos! Didn’t Kate and Richard start their marriage with a truly epic view?! So glad this sweet girl was able to be there for Richard and Kate’s wedding day! She’s been Richard’s best girl (Well, until Kate of course!) for years, and the day wouldn’t have been the same without her. Believe it or not, JPS Events’ services actually include decor design. Every detail was perfect! Oh, and this venue is only eight minutes from my house now that we live in Indianapolis. I certainly hope to be back at this incredible rooftop venue in downtown Indianapolis! For their speech Kate’s sisters created a parody of the song Buddy the Elf sings to his dad when they meet. It was amazing! Unfortunately, Richard’s parents are no longer with us. However, Todd and Kim (Kate’s parents) very much consider Richard their own. As a result, they fulfilled both bride and groom parents duties all day, and Kim had the pleasure of sharing a dance with her new son-in-law. With a gorgeous terrace that wraps almost all around the building, we were able to simply go just around the corner for Kate and Richard’s sunset photos. Talk about convenient and perfect! Since I met Kate and Richard through Alex and Casey’s wedding, it only felt right to get a photo with both VRP couples!
