We’re Hosting a Marketing Workshop for Photographers!

In Focus Marketing Summit is a marketing workshop for photographers

After months of keeping it a secret while we worked out the details, Jasmine Norris-Dixon and I are SO excited to announce that we’re hosting a marketing workshop for photographers!

Hosting a marketing workshop has been something that’s been on my heart for about a year and a half now. At the time, I was taking all kinds of online shooting and editing courses and attending workshops. (I have a bit of a learning addiction!) I was being taught by phenomenal educators and seeing improvements in my photos, but I began to notice something: so many photographers are sharing their photography secrets but few are talking about how they’re marketing their businesses. (There are exceptions. Jenna Kutcher is amazing!)

I firmly believe that my marketing background is why I was able to leave my 9-5 job to pursue photography full time, and Jasmine and I can’t wait to spend two days and a night sharing proven marketing strategies and tactics with photographers at the In Focus Marketing Summit so they can pursue their dreams too!

Side note: To say I’m thrilled be partnering with Jasmine of Jasmine Norris Photography would be the understatement of the century. Jasmine is an award-winning wedding photographer who has been published more than 100 times. She’s incredible, and I couldn’t have asked for a more organized, thoughtful workshop partner.

It isn’t enough to be a good photographer.

Photographer friends, this statement isn’t meant to be depressing. I just want to be honest and real with you so you can succeed!

It’s no secret that there are a TON of photographers. This has both pros and cons.

On one hand, it’s an amazing thing to be part of the photography community. I’ve made some of my closest friends through photography and my business wouldn’t be what it is without their love, honesty, and support.

On the other hand, being one among what seems like a million photographers can make it difficult for you to stand out. And, because the photography market is saturated, it isn’t enough to be a good—or even a great or the best—photographer.

So, what do you do? How can you stand out among the noise? How can you help potential clients see the value of what you do? How can you ensure that your business will succeed and you won’t be one of the 85% of photographers who close up shop because they can’t make ends meet?

Well, long story short, you need to:

  1. Identify your ideal clients.
  2. Have marketing strategies in place that allow you to reach your ideal clients and convert them into customers.
  3. Serve your clients so well that they keep coming back and sending you referrals!

By the end of this marketing workshop for photographers, you’ll have everything you need to do these three things!

Effective marketing strategies are why I’m able to be a full-time photographer.

In Focus Marketing Summit is a marketing workshop for photographers

I share more about this on the In Focus Marketing Summit website, but basically, I firmly believe that my marketing background is why I’m able to be a full-time photographer.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a photographer, but because I’m a practical person, I decided this wasn’t a good idea. Wanting to still be creative but have more job security, I studied English with a concentration in marketing instead and fell in love with website development, content marketing, SEO, social media, and the rest of the marketing world.

Now, what I didn’t see coming was that my marketing background would be the ticket to making photography my full-time career! I started working in marketing in 2012, and after marrying my husband, Zach, in 2015, our wedding photographer asked if I’d start second shooting for her. She eventually encouraged me to start my own photography business as a side hustle.

I spent three years building my business on the side. From 9-5, I was Treefrog Marketing’s content director, and at night and on the weekends, I was shooting, editing, and not sleeping.

It was time to make a career choice. I chose photography, and I’m so glad I did!

11 Steps to Turning Your Side Hustle into a Full-time Job: How I Became a Full-Time Photographer

I firmly believe that my marketing background and knowledge is why I’m able to be a full-time photographer. As cliche as it is, I feel like I’m living my best life, and if you’re a photographer, I want to help you do the same by giving you marketing strategies and tactics that can help you reach your target audience, convert prospects into customers, and make ends meet so you can do what you love.
