Since March 2020, my heart has ached for a lot of engaged couples whose weddings were affected by COVID. But, to be honest, my heart ached most for Alex and Casey.
You see, this sweet couple planned to get married on May 26, 2020. They had everything set and ready. Then, just a few weeks before their big day, stay-at-home orders were extended, and Alex and Casey were forced to delay their celebration by almost a full YEAR.
This was—of course—devastating for Alex and Casey. However, this crummy situation was a beautiful testament to who these two are. The now Mr. and Mrs. Hickner handled the delay with nothing but grace, kindness, understanding, and a desire to keep their loved ones safe. And, on May 8, 2021, they FINALLY became husband and wife!
Now, I’m so excited to share Alex and Casey Hickner’s Barn at Bay Horse Inn wedding on the blog!
The Hickner family holds a very special place in my heart. You see, Kate (Alex’s sister) and I went to college together, and I had the pleasure of photographing her and Shane’s wedding in 2019. And, in July 2021, I’ll have the honor of photographing Cole (Alex and Kate’s brother) and Kylei’s wedding.
The Hickner family is just so much fun to hang out with, and I’m convinced they have a grand time wherever they go. (I also love that Pat and Barb almost NEVER leave the dance floor!)
I know I adore the Hickners, so I was very excited to meet Casey’s family, especially knowing that Laura and Leigh (Casey’s parents) were married in the same church—St. John Lutheran Church in Indianapolis—and walked down the same aisle when they became husband and wife.
Just wait until you see the photos of Leigh giving Casey away at the altar. On their wedding day, I’m sure Laura and Leigh never imagined that they’d witness their daughter—who wasn’t even a thought yet—get married in the exact same spot. Maybe someday, Alex and Casey will have a child do the same.
After they officially became Mr. and Mrs. Hickner, Alex, Casey, and their bridal party (who were a lot of fun) boarded the trolley and headed to celebrate the happy couple at The Barn at Bay Horse Inn. And, their reception was gorgeous!
Between the DIY details Casey and her mom meticulously put together and the coordination and assistance of Royal Weddings and Events, the room was flawless!
After a delicious dinner, The Juice Box Heroes—Alex and Casey’s wedding band—took stage and were incredible! (Megan, my second shooter for this wedding, is a musician, and she repeatedly said how great they were. I know nothing about music, but I know this band made me want to dance with my camera in hand!)
50 weeks is a long time to have to postpone your wedding, but Alex and Casey, your reception was amazing, and if you asked your guests, I have a feeling that they’d say it was worth the wait!
Alex and Casey, congratulations on FINALLY becoming husband and wife! Your wedding day was gorgeous, but knowing the two of you and how well you love others and one another, I have no doubt that your marriage will be even more beautiful.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer. I adore you both, hearing the sarcastic conversations you have between one another, and your enthusiasm for life.
Now, I hope you love these previews from your St. John Lutheran Church and Barn at Bay Horse Inn wedding in Greenwood, Indiana!
Don’t you just love this color palette?! The mix of pinks and purples was stunning! Having sarcastic conversations is basically an Alex and Casey “signature” thing. I couldn’t overhear them from the back of the church, but according to one of their guests, Alex and Casey’s conversation at the altar when something like this:
Alex: Hey, what are you doing later?
Casey: I heard there’s a reception or something after this. Wanna go?
Alex: Sure. That sounds good.
Love them!
